Ladies and Gentlemans we were honoured to be hosts for the XVIth SEL Congress European de Entomologie who took place in Cluj-Napoca, between 25-31 May 2009, at Bethlen Kata Diaconal Centre, str. Ponorului, nr.1

The orgaizers were: Babes-Bolyai University, Faculty of Biology and Geologie, Taxonomy and Ecology Department, Societas Europaea Lepidopterologica, Romanian Lepidopterological Society

Organizing committee: Prof. Dr. Laszlo Rakosy, SEL Council, Raluca Voda - congress secretary

A post-congress excursion for two days has been organised in the Carst area of the Aries Valley, with many unique geological, ethnographic and architectural features. This area, where more than 1800 Lepidoptera are recorded belongs to the most species rich regions in Europe.

The proceedings of the congress will be published in the journal Entomologica Romanica in 2009.

The XXth Symposium Internationale Entomofaunistium Europae Centralis, 26-30 May 2007, Cluj-Napoca


We are pleased to announce you that this important symposium took place in Cluj-Napoca, hosted by UBB's  Ecology and Taxonomy Department together with Permanent Comitee of SIEEC.
During open festivities, entomologists with distinctives merits received SIEEC medals. The official language was german, but there wer english presentation, too.

Program themes:

1. Phylogenesis and distribution map:

  • Genetic diversity, molecular taxonomy and population genetics
  • Distribution map interpretation
  • Biology and taxonomy of different life stages
  • Micromorphology şi micrometry

2. Climate and fauna global change; entomofauna:

  • Data bases and distribuion map / faunistic novelties
  • Arthropod transmitted pathogenics
  • Neozoa and invasive species

3. Species and habitat protection; conservation measures:

  • Hot points for insect biodiversity in Europe
  • Reference plans, evaluation and classification methods
  • Insects as bioindicators (insects utilisation to evaluate the environment quality
  • European politics concerning protection of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems
